It was 1995 and a good friend called to tell me Vince was in town playing golf at a Knoxville pro-am tournament. Iʻd been a fan for years since seeing him play at Dollywood. My friend told me it was my chance to finally meet Vince but the radio station said he was already playing and I needed to hurry! Two problems though…I had a badly sprained ankle AND I was supposed to be at work! Nervously, I grabbed my camera and my “I Still Believe in You” CD and headed over. I get there, hobbled to the nearest hole and asked the first tournament worker I saw if Vince was still playing. She said “Yes and heʻs approaching to putt this hole right now”…it was too good to be true but there he was. I watched him play and soon others gathered. He chatted with all of us and agreed to a photo, but he grabbed my camera and tried to take my picture! Heʻs just as funny in person as he is onstage. Finally got my photo and he signed my CD. I was thrilled till I realized the TV news videotaped our whole conversation! Terrified my boss would find out, I confessed later at the office. Turns out everyone was jealous and wanted to touch my camera and pen that he held!! Thank you, Vince, for being so gracious and real with your fans. One of my favorite memories of all time!
