The first really sweet memory I had was when Mom brought my baby brother, Cheyenne, home and laid him in my arms when I was nine years old. My home was a violent home, and Cheyenne was the first real evidence that there was true love in the world. He was my first love, and I was his second "mother" after Mom went back to work. I loved music, and "raised him" listening to old country music, old rock and roll, old music from the 1940's and '50's .. and he grew up singing along with me. As we both grew older, we were still connected at the heart by MUSIC .. real music. He had a voice, and the first song I ever heard him sing was "Daniel" at karaoke. My brother died in 2013 and , after telling me he would never sing "Daniel" again after our half-brother was murdered, NOW .. when I sing "Daniel", I sing " Cheyenne" instead. Most times, I make it through it. The first time he heard Vince sing, he had tears in his eyes, and I couldn't tell you what the song was. But, to pick ONE memory is hard. Another sweet time was hearing Vince sing at George Jones' funeral .. LOVE DOES build bridges, and Music is one of the powers that builds them. NO one has a voice like Vince Gil .. No one .. not even me .. Smile.
